Students in Ms. Hurst's 8th grade science classes enjoyed the beautiful day while making Flipgrids (short videos) to demonstrate Newton's 3 laws of motion.

WEATHER CLOSURE: All campuses of HISD will be closed Friday (Feb. 4th) due to the threat of icy road conditions early tomorrow morning. Classes will resume on Monday (Feb 7th). The closure will impact many of our athletic and extracurricular activities scheduled this weekend. Please watch for information directly from your students’ activity sponsors (coaches, bands directors, teachers, etc.) through Remind. By 12:30 p.m, Thursday, temperatures had already dropped below freezing in a few portions of the district and we expect that to continue overnight. While temperatures may climb above freezing tomorrow afternoon, we do not yet know if it will be enough to allow for safe travel Friday afternoon or evening. We are in contact with forecasters and local emergency management authorities to best assess the current situation. HISD’s priority remains keeping our students and staff safe and will cancel or postpone activities if travel is potentially dangerous. Watch our website (HendersonISD.org/weather) for updates.

Outdoor Education is learning the skill of archery. Mr. Sallee's students are practicing shooting a bow and arrow from various distances with correct form as well as safety.

7th and 8th Grade Solo & Ensemble is around the corner for HMS Band Students!
On February 7th, HMS will host S&E for all 7th and 8th grade band students. The band students have been working hard on either a Solo or an Ensemble piece. They will perform these pieces in front of highly esteemed judges here at HMS. Times for their performance will be provided closer to contest. Good luck to these students as they prepare for contest!

Reminder!! MANDATORY meeting tonight at the high school cafeteria at 6:30 for all parents of current 7th and 8th graders interested in trying out for cheerleader.
Students in Ms. Blanton's 7th grade math class solved problems using scale drawings. Each group selected 2 locations on their map. The students then used the map scale to determine the distance between the locations.

GLAM Girls of HMS (Girls Growing, Learning, Accelerating, and Maturing) participated in a mock dinner to practice their restaurant etiquette before attending their formal dinner at a real restaurant. HMS teachers served as wait staff and took orders and served the students. These students applied and were accepted into this weekly self-development program to learn that they are each worth it.
Students return to class on Wednesday, January 5th.

7th grade percussion students performed at the high school Christmas Extravaganza last night. They had an outstanding performance of We Three Kings.
